Lachhman Das Madan

He is the ‘ Jyotish Samrat’. Every one, who wants to know what the ‘Stars Foretell’, knows about him. His predictions – some 40,000 at the last count, are now case studies to the students of astrology at home and abroad.

Madan (born April 9, 1923) had predicted the ascendancy of Atal Behari Vajpayee even as he was ruminating on his ‘wasted’ public life almost two decades ago. He had also correctly forecast the rise of Morarji Desai long before the Janata Phenomenon happened. And his words about the downfall of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination had come true.

He started “Babaji”- a monthly on astrology and religion in English in 1981 as creative expressions of his interest and devotion to astrology. A decade later in 1992, he started a Hindi magazine to be closer to the people. Both publications have a carved a niche.

A graduate from Punjab University, Madan had a long stint in the government (1941-80) but that did not come in his way of pursuing his interest in celestial objects. His first monumental work – Astrological Study of India appeared in August 1969 with the predictions about the rise and fall of Indira Gandhi.

He had come up with a 10-year prediction chart in October 1989 to mark the 100th issue of Babaji. A decade later, in April 1990, he offered his prophesies for the world for the next 20 –years. A former Chief Justice of India, who went on to become a Judge of the International Court of Justice wrote the foreword for the book.

And on April 19, 2003, he presented his predictions for India for the coming 100-years. The occasion was the first century by Hindi Babaji.

Some of his forecasts that made the world sit and take notice of him were: First Gulf War even before the US fired its first missile on Iraq (1990), Second Gulf War (2003),‘capture’ of Saddam Hussein, regime change in Iran, break-up of Soviet Union, army coup against Nawaz Sharif Government, overthrow of Fiji government, humiliating defeat for Pak army on Kargil heights, assassination of Rajiv Gandhi and President Anwar Saadat (of Egypt) and the fall of Indian government in 1989, 1990, 1996, 1997 and 1998. He also correctly cautioned investors about an impending crash on stock markets in several countries including USA and India.

Madan predicted the victory for Democrat’s nominee Bill Clinton as US President. Also of Republican George W Bush Junior. At home, he spoke about the rise of K R Naryanan in February 1983 itself long before he distinguished himself as a Minister, Vice President and finally as the President of India.

He has made a special study of ‘Predicting Earthquakes and Calamities’ and his book (August 2003) is a must read for astrologers, scientists, geologists and seismologists alike. He has ‘foretold’ as many as 160 earthquakes across the world!

Madan started “The Astrology Study & Research Institute” in 1969. He is the Principal and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the “Foundation for Study and Research in Astrological Sciences”. He is also the Senior Vice President of the World Conference on Religion for Peace.
