:: Astronomy And Astrology Are The Two Sides Of The Same Coin :: Science
is very much a way of looking at the world that defines what
is true and what is false according to the current
set of theories. Astronomy is said to be the oldest and noblest of the
physical sciences. Astronomy is the science of mapping the positions
and movements of celestial bodies. It tries to discover what these bodies
are made of, and where they came from, using sophisticated technical
equipment. This scientific endeavor grew out of three traditional studies
that had concerned themselves with practical uses for our observations
of the stars — astrology, navigation and calendrics. Planets do
influence the human beings. Astrology is a scientific way of looking
at the world, but it is one, which is not favored by the broad mass
of scientists at present, because it explains the world using a different
paradigm from those, which are routinely accepted within the scientific
community. Thousands of years of detailed observation of the stars and
careful correlation with events on the earth have shown all things in
our world to be interconnected and that the connections may be mapped
by observing the positions of the planets within the frame of the zodiac.
Scientific observations, measurements and calculations are used in astrology
to generate the framework for meaningful, symbolic patterns. These patterns,
scientifically categorized, reveal much about the way our world is constructed;
they enable us to analyze, explain and predict social, political, emotional
and other important characteristics of life on earth. The earliest astronomers were astrologers who studied the movement of the heavenly bodies to determine their influences on the lives of men and nations. In spite of the claims of the modern scientists, some of the great astronomers and mathematicians in history were practical astrologers, not just to earn living, but because they were convinced of it’s validity. The word ‘astrology’ has been derived from Aster a star. Astrology means original practical astronomy: now almost confined to the once supposed art of science of the influence of stars on human and terrestrial affairs. Jyotisha in common parlance today is used to mean ‘predictive astrology’, but in ancient India, it was used as a synonym for astronomy of which mathematics was a part. Ancient sages regarded astrology as the soul of astronomy. Some call it as “Science of light ” and “the mother of all sciences”. It is said to be the philosophy of discovering and analyzing past impulses and future actions of both individuals and nations in the light of planetary configurations. Vedas and puranas are our heritage. In them is stored the essence of all the knowledge. Astrology is a branch of Vedas- The earliest references to astronomy are found in the rig Veda. Vedas contain innumerable references to Nakshatras, seasons, months etc. It refers to the seven colors of the sunrays. It refers to moon as a satellite. Rig-veda has 30 shlokas on astrology. The rig-veda speaks of the moon as the measure of time. Likewise the Atharva veda refers to the Nakshatras. The Artha sastra refers to planetary movements, especially of Venus. The earliest concept of a heliocentric model of the solar system in which sun at the center of the solar system and the earth orbiting it is found in several Vedic Sanskrit texts. The strength of astrology comes from the accumulated knowledge of centuries of research and observation, developed within a deeply intuitive understanding of the essential nature of the world, consciousness and the environment. Astronomy has no use for mankind unless it is made use for predicting the influence of planets on man and his world; a fact modern astronomer has not been able to appreciate. We will have to wait a few more decades to see that an astronomer adopt a different attitude and understand that astrology can deal with the predictive sides which alone are useful to mankind, very illuminating and effectively useful than an astronomer’s fanciful flight into an impossible search for an explanation of the origin of the universe. |
